Tuesday Lent 4

Then Jesus said, “God’s kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The seed sprouts and grows—he has no idea how it happens. The earth does it all without his help: first a green stem of grass, then a bud, then the ripened grain. When the grain is fully formed, he reaps—harvest time!

Mark 4:26-29 MSG

God’s kingdom seems simple. So, how has it become such a complex process?

I often hear of God’s kingdom as something to be a part of rather than something that happens over time in a person. This is quite a thought.

Could harvest time be when God sees that one is fully formed and plucks them from the earth? What about those who are taken from this earth in their addiction? What about those who leave by suicide? Or a child who departs way too young? Are they fully formed?

This is not the image I get when I think of someone being fully formed. So, can my image change? Am I so stuck on what I have learned growing up that I can’t be open to a new way of seeing? Isn’t learning to see differently part of maturing in faith? I am learning it does, and it is freeing.
