Group Spiritual Direction is a beautiful way of companioning others and also being companioned. Groups of 4-6 people meet together once a month to provide spiritual direction for each other.
The purpose of spiritual direction groups is formation. Individuals learn how to listen contemplatively and become more aware of God in their lives, in the lives of others, and the world around them. (THIS IS PRAYER!) Faith grows and love toward others increase. A compassionate and non-judgmental presence becomes embraced.
Although meeting in person may be preferred, it is possible to offer Group Spiritual Direction online. The online option gives individuals the opportunity to participate even when being in-person isn’t an option for them.
There are different types of groups that can be formed below:
A Lectio Divina Group is a spiritual formation group that opens the door to contemplative listening to God, self, and others. In this group a Scripture passage is read several times with pauses and questions to ponder in between. This is an ancient way of praying with Scripture.
Lectio Divina is not a Bible Study where a group leader shares ideas or opinions and leads the group in a time of discussion, nor is it a support group (although our encounter with God and one another is refreshing and uplifting).
Lectio is an experience in meditation with God as one looks at how a certain word or phrase in Scripture intersects their own life. As members share their experience, the group as a whole is enriched.

Journey Share is an opportunity to companion others as well as to be companioned in a formal way. Typically, I will select a medium (whether it be a book, a film, images, or other material) for the group to engage in. There will be questions to ponder and reflect on throughout the week so each participant can offer something to share during our sessions.
Journey Share groups are designed as a kind of “Lectio on Life” experience. Wherein Lectio Divina is a divine reading of Scripture, Lectio on Life is a sharing of God’s presence in ones life. The companions in this group help to deepen the experience by mirroring and reflecting on what has been said, asking clarifying questions, and sensing what may be an invitation from God. This process helps one hear themselves and God better.
My hope for these sessions is to deepen our capacity to contemplatively reflect on what we engage in and to also offer an open space for others to share their reflections without judgments or criticism.
