Justice for George Floyd! PLEASE!!!
My heart breaks.
This is never ok.
Our black brothers/sisters matter too.
I agree with MKL Jr as he explained 53 years ago, ‘A riot is the language of the unheard.’
So perhaps we should learn to listen better, learn to be attentive to the needs of others, learn to use our voice to help another. If we do this we will love well. If we do this, we will have chosen the pathway of conscious love that changes our lives and the lives of others…if our lives change, society is bound to change.
White privilege is real and it may never go away. Some get defensive about it and others bury their head trying to ignore it because deep down they know they can’t change it. So what are we white people to do? Make yourself aware. Read books about ‘White Fragility’, educate yourself about it, put down your defenses. Get a black friend (or many black friends) who you intentional choose to learn from. Submerge yourself in black culture. Learn to appreciate the struggles of African Americans. We have much to learn from our black brothers and sisters. Start combining churches to have both black and white co-leaders, heck…just start with your own color and try to share the leadership…its harder for those who are in it for power.
Many of us are just waiting for “when we all get to heaven”…but let me challenge us a little further…we can experience heaven now in this life when we love, when we serve, when we stand up for justice, when we submit one to another, when we prefer another over ourselves, when we speak up and speak out.
Rioting and looting is never ok, but it is the language of the unheard…just like those who lash out in words or actions regardless of age.
Pray for justice. Life is precious. The life of George Floyd is precious. The earth will cry out.
